What a mess...

Okay, well.... that was no fun.

I spent a good portion of my time trying to fix the computer my Grandpa gave me... about 2 -3 weeks, actually. Turns out, looking the model number up, that it's a problem a lot of people experience after using the computer for more than 2 years. The fix was to unseat ALL THE INNER PARTS, clean them, and replace the PSU (Power Box). And that's just a few user's experiences with the computer; there's no guarantee that will fix it.

So me and my parents finally through up our arms and decided to buy a new PC.... as much as my parents wallets didn't want to. We got an HP Pavilion with a dual-core processor and 6 GB of ram for $450. Suffice to say, it's better than what I was running.

This happened last Thursday (8/18/11). Sense than it's been a mess to re-install all my software and figure out what doesn't work anymore. I've also had some personal things going on that have been hindering my time working on the PC. (One of them is a short film I co-directed with my best friend, who's leaving for collage soon, that you can watch here.)

But on Saturday I FINALLY was able to sit down and start working on my school projects. This is something I wanted to work on over the summer, and I'm only JUST NOW getting a start on it, 3 weeks before school starts. All I can muster to say is...... Ugh.

Anyways, I'm now trying to put some stuff togeather. I started on the "Art Education Poster" But to be honest, I'm not sure what it means by that. Is it supposed to educate someone on art? Does it have to be about a specific artist, or a kind of art? Or can it just be an educational poster, not necessarily one about art?

So I moved onto the Onesies. I had to look that up because I didn't really know what a onesie was, let alone how to draw one. I found some clip-art online and used that as a start. Today, I finished my first onesie. I hope to have the other 2 done by Wendsday. (Actually, it'd be great if I could get them done sooner, but...There are other things that need attending as well.)

With that said, here is the first Onesie:

The other 2 onesies won't be in the same style as this one, so if you don't like this one that much, maybe you'll like the other two more. We'll see. :)

Thanks for reading that wall of text! Now, back to work.

  1. Did you read Ms. Ottum's description of the project?

"Goal: Create a poster advertising the benefits of Art Education
    Audience: General Public
    Size: 11 x 17 (tabloid)
    Program: Photoshop or Illustrator
    Process:

Research the benefits of art education. Find three reasonswhy the arts should be part of every child's K-12 education
Create a list of potential tag lines. For example: "Don't just create, originate," "Multiply your success," "Innovative art creates an innovative world."
Create 10 thumbnail sketches of potential designs.
    Create 1 on the computer.
Bring your file to the first day of class.

    EXCLUSIONS:

Be sure not to use imagery from sources you didn't create. For example, using a photograph from google images instead of a photograph you took.
Make sure your Ad Copy is original. I shouldn't see something like "Just Design." We all know what company you would be ripping that off from..."

Examples are on her page: http://ahsapart.blogspot.com/p/2d-summer-work-guidelines.html

Also, several other people have done other examples, should check out their projects.

That's probably more than enough info, but hopefully you get the idea now.

I wish you had posted that you were having issues with a onesie earlier, Terry made a template: http://thisisthefox.blogspot.com/2011/06/onesie-template.html

The onesie you have is cute, though I feel like it is missing a certain something. Not sure what...

  2. After staring at it for a moment more, I think it lacks color... You can keep it as it is, it's cute, but I would add a bit more color somewhere.

  3. Whew. That is crazy.

The onesie design is cute. The character disappears a little into the background. The idea of cartoon characters is nice. I am not a video game expertise, but the character looks like Sonic. You want to make sure it looks unique enough for judges to see it as something unique that you designed. Unfortunately you will most likely get judges who are like me and ignorant to gaming characters. If they think you "copied" Sonic you will get dinged in your score.

  4. Whew what a summer!

The onesie design is cute. I like the idea of characters, simple and centered. The face does disappear into the background a bit. You could try playing around to create more contrast. The only concern I have is that to the untrained video game eye the character resembles Sonic. If the judges mistakenly take your designs as Sonic designs then you will get dinged. You need the characters to look unique enough so the judges, that most likely will know little of gaming characters, will not confuse your work with the work of others.
