We Had A Great Day Out~

Hey guys. It's been a long time since a blog post has graced my page, and wouldn't you know it, we're almost at the end of the trimester! That means it's time for an excess amount of work to be published. Since my last post, I've gotten quite a few projects done. The projects you're about to see are going up early so that I can get the final okay and / or comments from Mrs. Ottum.

With that said, projects ahoy!

Project 1: "Motion"
You guys have already seen this one in a earlier post, so I won't re-explain this one much. Basically, it's Motion conveyed in only black and white.

Project 2: "Artistic-Line"

I think this one was done before Motion was, but ehh, I'll add it anyways. It is a timeline of my life up to this point, or more specifically, the timeline of my inspirations that have lead me to being in AP Art Studio. I admit that it's not my best work, but I think it's okay, considering the time frame and the subject matter.

Project #3: Time-Line

....Ugh. I'm sorry, this one is pretty terrible. I had no idea what to come up with that would mean I'd have my project in on time, and by the time I got to work on it, I only had a week left to make all 30. I came up with this little Timeline idea and just ran with it as fast as I could.... too fast. The result is something I feel anyone would do in their free time with the live trace tool. :P

Project #4: Music Poster
This is suppose to be a 70's poster. This project changed a lot from the beginning to the end, but the result is pretty good. The only thing I miss is the curvy borders I had; unfortunately they didn't really fit the theme at all and needed to be redone. By that point, I was ready to move on, so...

Project #5: Coloris
I think my main concern is that I began with one idea and switched to another when I realized how time-consuming the first idea would be. In the end, there's a image in the middle that is not the same as the others. Also, the Ad Copy is kinda hard to see in Image 3. It's there; the black makes up "Coloris", but it's not obvious like the other two.

Project #6: Birds
(Line-based image removed for cleaning's sake. Sorry!)
I have a bit of a dilemma with this one. You see, The first Bird, the Owl, looks really good in the first set because he's made up of lines, but the other three were designed using shapes. So, they don't match in theme. Okay, well than let's just change them to lines, right? But now the birds that had shapes look worse than they did with them. So now, I don't know which one to turn in - the top one, or the bottom one?

Project #7: Art Education
This one took me a long time to come up with, because you are essentially trying to convey a message that's usually spoken. The idea that I finally went with was a simple visual representation of the brain. On one side, we have the varied, creative and open canvas. On the other, we have the logical side of the mind. In the first, they are scattered, but in the third image, they are aligned just right. Than in the center I've got both sides working together.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alright, now on the the Concentrations. I'm not going to put text in-between these, because they all follow the same theme. The theme is environments - either man-made or natural that coincides with a month of the year. Each image is composed of only lines. Each one messes with the idea of earth reaching up to the heavens, and the heavens reaching back down. When I'm done, I'll have a full calendar.

I'll probably end up re-posting these tonight, without explanations. :P

The Colors Fall Like Snow

Hey again,
So, I said I'd upload my 30 minis this week, so here it is:

To be honest, I wasin't really happy with this one. I did work hard to get these all done on time, but... these feel like they were produced by someone who got their hands on Illustrator and had nothing better to do than live sketch himself and make trippy colors. But... Ehh, I can't win them all I guess.

Next week is the Restaurant poster!

If my heart was a house...

Hey, long time no see.
So I guess it's about time I post some of my work.. it has been more than a month after all.

So these new pieces are the six 6x6 designs that I did in AP Studio Art. I decided my theme would be motion. It didin't take long to realize that motion is pretty much impossible if you only have 2 colors: Black and White.

So rather than create the visual effect of motion, I made abstract shapes that appear to be in motion, or that they have motion. It resulted in some strange and interesting designs...And the best part is they are interpretive pieces. What do you see in these pictures?

If it's a little small, I appologize. The blog resizes the image and I can't do much about it. I'll have the full resolution image up on my website.... as soon as I get the time to update it. :P

So I guess that's my update for today. I'll be back with my 30 mini's next week.

Fight back the Undertow

Alright, I return with lots of work done.

First off: The Sonic Onesie. I changed all the dark blue lines to a darker blue...but I didin't really like it. The blue was too dark, and I liked it better with the old blue. So.... Instead, I just made it bigger and centered it. Here's the current version:

If that's not good enough, I'll see if I can change it to something I like. :P

Okay, Onesie #2: The one that was originally Eve. I had a few ideas for ways to create something that can invoke thoughts of the character without actually being the character. I ended up going with my simplist of ideas because.... it was pretty easy to create. Not too easy, though. Those scanlines on the eyes where tricky. So, Here's revision 2 of Onesie 2:

And finally, Onesie number 3. I figured I could just recolor this one and give it a smiley face and It'd be good enough, so.... That's what I did.

With those out of the way, I thought I'd treat myself to something I wanted to make since school got out: the Gamers Club 2 Poster. I knew what I wanted it to look like for months, and now it's finally done.

It IS a reference to a video game poster from the 90's. This one, actually:

Well.... Not exactly. To be honest, finding the poster at a decent size online is pretty much impossible. What you see up above is about all I could find...

So.... That's all I have to show for now. See you in the Alligator Sky!

Good evening shuttle bus, tell me, where 'you gonna take us?

Hello again. You might not know this, but I'm posting this at 3 AM. Thing is, when I read Ms. Ottum's messages in my E-mail as I went to bed, I began to realize what a mess I made.

Let me get this stuff out of the way first: Yesterday I made the other Onesies. In my desprate attempt to get stuff done as fast as possible, I forgot a few details. Like, the fact that a panel of judges are going to see this and dock me for using established characters.

(For the sake of cleanliness and protection, the images have been removed.)

The second one there, is WAY too obvious to use. It's gonna go.
The third one, I might be able to re-color or add details to. Otherwise, I'll have to do something new for that too.

As for the Sonic one... That I can modify. If I change the 3 spines to 7 or something, and turn him brown, he should be seen as more of a real Hedgehog and less of the fantasy one owned by SEGA. It should also help fix the whole blending problem.

Thank you both for your inputs on my work, I appreciate it. I'm just having a tough time right now, juggling my online PE course, the AP Art stuff and some life things (My best friend is leaving for collage in 2 weeks, helping my family with chores, and gathering school supplies/Shopping, among other things.)

I'll be back at this later today.

What a mess...

Okay, well.... that was no fun.

I spent a good portion of my time trying to fix the computer my Grandpa gave me... about 2 -3 weeks, actually. Turns out, looking the model number up, that it's a problem a lot of people experience after using the computer for more than 2 years. The fix was to unseat ALL THE INNER PARTS, clean them, and replace the PSU (Power Box). And that's just a few user's experiences with the computer; there's no guarantee that will fix it.

So me and my parents finally through up our arms and decided to buy a new PC.... as much as my parents wallets didn't want to. We got an HP Pavilion with a dual-core processor and 6 GB of ram for $450. Suffice to say, it's better than what I was running.

This happened last Thursday (8/18/11). Sense than it's been a mess to re-install all my software and figure out what doesn't work anymore. I've also had some personal things going on that have been hindering my time working on the PC. (One of them is a short film I co-directed with my best friend, who's leaving for collage soon, that you can watch here.)

But on Saturday I FINALLY was able to sit down and start working on my school projects. This is something I wanted to work on over the summer, and I'm only JUST NOW getting a start on it, 3 weeks before school starts. All I can muster to say is...... Ugh.

Anyways, I'm now trying to put some stuff togeather. I started on the "Art Education Poster" But to be honest, I'm not sure what it means by that. Is it supposed to educate someone on art? Does it have to be about a specific artist, or a kind of art? Or can it just be an educational poster, not necessarily one about art?

So I moved onto the Onesies. I had to look that up because I didn't really know what a onesie was, let alone how to draw one. I found some clip-art online and used that as a start. Today, I finished my first onesie. I hope to have the other 2 done by Wendsday. (Actually, it'd be great if I could get them done sooner, but...There are other things that need attending as well.)

With that said, here is the first Onesie:

The other 2 onesies won't be in the same style as this one, so if you don't like this one that much, maybe you'll like the other two more. We'll see. :)

Thanks for reading that wall of text! Now, back to work.

Oh Boy!

Alright, so my Birthday was the 31st of July, so I spent most of my time partying. Thing is though, my Grandpa gave me his old PC that he loaded Windows 7 on.... So now I actually have a fairly decent computer. Only problem is... It blue screens once every 24 hours or so. So right now I'm trying to fix whatever is causing the Blue-Screens.

In even better news, Adobe Illustrator CS5 FINALLY came in the mail today, so now I can FINALLY get started on those 4 projects.

Oh, and just to spice up this blog post, here's a silly picture for you:

Aloha Business Association Logo

Me, Josh and another Sam came togeather near the end of the school year and worked to create a logo for the Aloha Business Association. Not long ago, the logo was publicly shown and announced as the official logo. So I figured what better to do than post it here on my blog!

You can read the announcement article about it here.

"Data" Concept Art #2

By request, I'm uploading a progression of my game "Data"s main character up to this point.
For those who missed the first post, "Data" is the working name for a original action/platforming game I've been drawing up for nearly a year now (Both in writing and on paper), and I am currently trying to design the main character.

^ These were the very first drawings of the character, and were just doodles on scrap grid paper. This is the "Kirby with actual hands" I was talking about in post 1, But with ears.

I had scrapped the ears in favor of arms at this point. This form was easy to draw and easy to animate, but after drawing him with real legs, I realized that this wasn't the path I wanted to go with and tried messing with other body forms.

^ At first, I tried a compromise between the 2 forms: Ears and arms. But it was quickly apparent to me that by giving him ears, I made the top of his head look like he's wearing Underwear. I decided that I wanted too many features for it all to be on one sphere, so I gave it a body and abandoned the ninja suit. Originally, the jagged line was just a pattern on his belly, but I thought it would be more creative if that was hair. In order to keep him from appearing bland, I gave him curling hair and a little bit sticking out over his head. The long nose was another attempt to make his head an interesting shape rather than a circle with eyes. I played with it a little, but liked the one on the top right the most and added some changes from there.

^ This is the last form that he was in before his current one. Notice how the ear lobe touches the edge of the ear, and that his hair is pointy and not rounded like in the current version. I also made his hair more 'ratty, worn' looking in this version, but it seemed pretty redundant and not really attractive, so it was scrapped. I also, for some reason, thought that I should give him whiskers and keep the curly hair. The curly hair is now gone in the final version.

So, let me know what you think if you like. This will probably be the last update on DATA at least for a few weeks.

'Data' Concept Art #1

This Blog hasn't been updated in a little while, so I figured I'd drop in and upload something to make me seem like I'm doing something with my summer time... :P

For a little less than 8 years now, I've been creating computer games. None of the work I've published has actually been original concepts because I wanted to get a grasp on learning the fundamentals of using code. But over the past year or so I've been drawing up game characters, mechanics, stage designs and other stuff, and I haven't shared it with anyone. At least, until now. :P

Here is one of the many drawings for a game I'm currently calling "Data" (Pronounced "Dah-Tuh", not "Dae-Tah") That I'll be continuing to work on in the coming years. What you're seeing here is some concept art of the main character, who's been revised 4 times over his development. He used to be something like Kirby, except with a ninja suit and actual hands. :P
(Before anyone says it, yes, his hand is backwards on the bottom one. I noticed just as I inked it :X)

I apologize that some of it is inked and some is not (My ink pen died while inking these!) And If you're wondering what animal he's based on... There is no 1 animal. He has something like the mane of a Lion, whiskers (Were inspired by cats), A Curly tail (Inspired by my Pug), and a long snout (Inspired by Doberman dogs) and long ears (Inspired by Foxes).

Anyway... Give me feedback on this if you want, while I work on my Studio Art project....
(So...why did I post this again? :S )

Old Stuff: Gamer (iPod Poster #3)

So here's something from Graphic Design 1! I played a bit with sense of depth on this one. Also, yes, that's me holding a Super Nintendo controller.

Hello!

Hello, and welcome to my new blog!

You're probably wondering: Why do you have TWO blogs? Well, my AP Studio Art teacher requested that I submit my work via Blogger, not Tumblr. So, here I am!

This blog will be focused only on my stuff that relates to my AP Studio Art class. If you want to read what I do outside of that, there are plenty of other places you can check out: Youtube, Twitter, Tumblr, Formspring, and DeviantART!

The class in question technically starts in September - but we've been asked to do a few projects early during the summer to get a head start. I'll also be using this to communicate with my AP Studio Art teacher. :)

Thanks for visiting!
