Hello again. You might not know this, but I'm posting this at 3 AM. Thing is, when I read Ms. Ottum's messages in my E-mail as I went to bed, I began to realize what a mess I made.
Let me get this stuff out of the way first: Yesterday I made the other Onesies. In my desprate attempt to get stuff done as fast as possible, I forgot a few details. Like, the fact that a panel of judges are going to see this and dock me for using established characters.
(For the sake of cleanliness and protection, the images have been removed.)
The second one there, is WAY too obvious to use. It's gonna go.
The third one, I might be able to re-color or add details to. Otherwise, I'll have to do something new for that too.
As for the Sonic one... That I can modify. If I change the 3 spines to 7 or something, and turn him brown, he should be seen as more of a real Hedgehog and less of the fantasy one owned by SEGA. It should also help fix the whole blending problem.
Thank you both for your inputs on my work, I appreciate it. I'm just having a tough time right now, juggling my online PE course, the AP Art stuff and some life things (My best friend is leaving for collage in 2 weeks, helping my family with chores, and gathering school supplies/Shopping, among other things.)
I'll be back at this later today.
I think that the sonic just needs more color. To me, it looks different enough-doesn't look like you copied it as much as drew the character. That's just me though, I don't know about the judges...
ReplyDeleteThe Eve one, I couldn't even see the onesie, I just saw Eve's eyes and the little plant symbol thing. I agree, WAY too obvious, it just looks like you pasted the image on, honestly. Maybe you could do something spacey and put Eve "flying" or whatever. You could have a white band stretch across (Eve "flying", moving fast) and put her eyes and a "hand" extended out, maybe? I'm not sure what the guidelines are for character usage on this project...
The Mario one is adorable!!! I wish you could use that one without any problems.
If you wanted to, you could completely start over with one, and do all the little baddies everywhere, or even, this just popped into my head, do a Boo and write, "Peek-a-BOO!" or something cheesy and cute like that.
Owl City quote title. Nice. <3 <3 <3
(If you even meant to quote that, maybe you were quoting something else or just saying it...)
The Sonic onesie was actually inspired by a Lion Onesie I saw elsewhere that was in a very similar style, but it was orange instead of blue. I think the biggest problem is that the blue isn't dark enough; if I darkened it, it wouldn't be too bad.
ReplyDeleteFor EVE, the plant image was done freehand, but I looked at a reference for the eye-shape, and I traced the pupils because of how difficult they are to mimic. Doesn't really matter anyways, that one's not getting turned in. I've got an idea for something else in the same style, though.
I'm thinking I might be able to get away with making the overalls black and the shirt blue, or something of that nature. If I have to, I can make a face out of the yellow buttons. If I can't, I'll probably go with an idea very similar to yours.
Yes, that is an Owl City quote. :D
Surprised someone even caught that, it's the catcher from one of his lesser known songs. I don't generally favor specific artists, but Adam Young/Owl City.... Is the exception. :3
Yeah, I feel like Sonic doesn't really stand out...
ReplyDeleteHopefully, the Mario works, that one is adorable.
I LOVE OWL CITY. From, "Early Birdie", no?
I am not even joking, while I was working on ALL of my projects, the only thing I listened to was Owl City, just on repeat.
Also, "shuttle". :P
And "Good evening".
I am a bit of a spelling and grammar Nazi, ESPECIALLY when it comes to lyrics.
Alright, so I've basically "Fixed" those 2 Onesies. I have an idea that can reference EVE but be it's own standalone art piece, which I'll get to tomorrow. (Today was busy... ;-;)
ReplyDeleteYup, Early Birdie. I had the Catcher stuck in my head, and I needed a title, so....
I've been doing the same. In fact, I've had all his music playing a lot the last 2 weeks. :)
Also....It's not much of a secret, but I'm a horrible speller. Especially when it's 3 AM. Spell check is a great friend...except when it, for whatever reason, doesn't work. Apparently, Firefox's spell checker doesn't work on the title bar. :P
Oh, also, I fixed the Blog title for you. :)
ReplyDeleteI saw the title, it was the first thing I noticed. :)
ReplyDeleteJust sayin', "Hot Air Balloon" is my jam. xD
I can't wait to see what you have to update with!!
Do you know which class you are going to be in yet (first or second period)?
Sam, try not to worry to much. Graphic Design almost always revises summer assignments as part of their fall in class work. One of the benefits of the computer as a medium is the ability to rework art. I know you are under the "gun" so to speak because of the computer fiasco this summer.
